Common signs

Is it just slow, or about to back up?

Most drain disasters start with small warning signs. Knowing what to look for can save you from a Thanksgiving Day sewage backup. Here's what we see most often in Napa homes.

Slow draining sinks or tubs

Water pools while you're using a sink or bath, then drains slowly after. Usually a partial clog — easy to clear now, but will fully block soon if ignored.

Gurgling sounds

Hearing bubbling or gurgling from drains when you flush the toilet or run water elsewhere? That's air trapped by a developing blockage in your main line.

Multiple drains backing up

If more than one drain is slow or backing up at the same time, the problem isn't local — it's in your main sewer line. Don't wait. Call before it overflows.

Sewer smell indoors or out

Persistent sewage odors usually mean a cracked drain line, dry P-trap, or partial main line blockage allowing gas to escape. Don't ignore — it's a health concern.

Water pooling in yard

Soggy spots, lush green patches, or visible water above your sewer line path — especially after no rain — often signals a broken or collapsed sewer line below.

Recurring clogs in same drain

If you keep clearing the same drain every few weeks, you have a deeper issue — usually buildup on pipe walls. Snaking just makes a hole; you need full cleaning.

The right tool for the job

Three methods, one honest recommendation.

We don't upsell. We tell you which method actually fits your situation — and why.

Best for: minor clogs

Drain snaking

An auger cable spins through the drain, punching through the blockage and breaking it apart. Fast and effective for fresh clogs.

  • Cleared in 30-60 minutes
  • Affordable starting point
  • Works for fresh, soft clogs
  • Doesn't fully clean pipe walls
Best for: diagnosis

Camera inspection

A waterproof camera on a flexible cable feeds through your pipes and shows you exactly what's inside on a screen. No guessing.

  • See exactly what's wrong
  • Identifies broken/collapsed sections
  • Essential before home purchases
  • Recorded for insurance claims

Why Eagle Valley

Napa's straight-talking drain experts.

Drain cleaning is where dishonest plumbers thrive — easy to overcharge, easy to scare customers into unnecessary repairs. We've built our reputation on the opposite approach.

No scare tactics

We'll show you what's really going on (camera footage), tell you what's truly urgent, and what can wait.

Right tool, right job

We won't sell you hydro-jetting if a $150 snake will fix it. And we won't snake a clog that needs jetting.

30-day workmanship guarantee

If the same drain clogs again within 30 days, we come back and clear it free. That's how confident we are.

FAQ

Drain questions, answered.

The questions Napa homeowners ask us most often about drains and sewer lines. Don't see yours? Call us at (707) 977-5726.

Basic drain snaking typically costs $150-$350 depending on access and severity. Hydro-jetting runs $350-$700 for main lines. Camera inspections are around $250-$400. We always quote upfront — diagnostic fee waived if you proceed with the service.
A drain snake (auger) punches a hole through the clog so water flows again — fast and inexpensive but doesn't clean the pipe walls. Hydro-jetting blasts high-pressure water (up to 4,000 PSI) that scours pipe walls clean of grease, scale, and roots. For recurring clogs, hydro-jetting is the longer-lasting fix.
Camera inspection is worth it if drains clog repeatedly, you're buying a home, you suspect tree root intrusion, or have an older home with original pipes. We feed a waterproof camera through your line and show you exactly what's happening — no guessing.
We don't recommend them. Chemicals like Drano can corrode pipes — especially older galvanized or cast iron — and rarely clear serious blockages. They also create hazards for the plumber if professional service is needed afterward. Stick to mechanical clearing or call us.
For most Napa homes, professional drain cleaning every 18-24 months prevents most emergencies. Homes with mature trees nearby, older clay/cast iron sewer lines, or histories of clogging benefit from annual cleaning. Restaurants and commercial kitchens often need quarterly service.
Kitchen drains: grease and food waste. Bathroom drains: hair and soap scum. Main sewer lines: tree roots seeking moisture (a huge issue with mature oaks and redwoods in Napa). Older homes with clay or cast iron lines are especially vulnerable to root intrusion.
In most cases, yes. We access drain lines through existing cleanouts or roof vents and use snake or hydro-jet equipment without excavation. Only when a pipe is broken, collapsed, or severely root-bound do we recommend trenchless repair or excavation — and even then we'll explore alternatives first.
